CBG Reviews The Retributors!

They're the elite of the superhero community. They're a group of heroes endowed with fantastic powers, who have battled super villains, saved the world, yadda yadda yadda. They are a group of highly public figures who are worshipped as celebrities.
And then there are the Retributors.
While their major-league counterparts enjoy fame and the vices that come with it, the Retributors are a group of third-string heroes who work in the streets and gutters, forever in the shadows of their better-known brethren. There's no shortage of superhero titles out there, but writer / inker Adam Wallenta explores a different and interesting aspect: that superheroes, just like actors, singers, or professional athletes, have varying degrees of success and stardom.
And he does it well, with tongue planted firmly in cheek. One team member calls himself The Spoon, and with no powers, he disembowels his enemies with one swing of his deadly piece of tableware. Or the bionicly enhanced former street hustler who calls himself The Six Million Dollar Pimp. They're not Superman or Captain America, and they know it. But still they press on, doing their jobs as best they can.
Like the fill-in band who has to entertain a crowd of 50,000 after the Rolling Stones cancel a gig, things get especially interesting when this lowly group of heroes finds that the duty of saving the world has this time been brought to them. Artist Peov has certain a Joe Staton quality: solid
understanding of panel flow and human anatomy, but combined with enough exaggeration and quirkiness to keep things from looking too serious.
Everyone's read JLA or The Avengers. This is a book about the other guys.
PRO: Funny and inventive.
CON: Gypsy Bitch's powers. Ouch.
